Kool Smiles has always used technology in innovative ways to provide the best care for its patients at the lowest possible cost, and it is pleased to announce new efforts in coordination with Wyse Technology, an international leader in thin computing and client virtualization.
Wyse Technology has helped Kool Smiles adopt a new approach to maintaining electronic health records and standardized practices using computer hardware that will increase productivity and reduce cost. This hardware is both cost-effective and low maintenance, making it ideal for Kool Smiles. With advancements of this sort that improve efficiency and reduce needed capital, Kool Smiles hopes to improve the oral health care crisis that currently exists in the United States. With Wyse Technology’s thin clients, Kool Smiles has optimized staff productivity and saved valuable capital that would have otherwise been wasted on hardware, software, and PC support. Kool Smiles operates a class-one data center in Atlanta that delivers applications to the 2,100 Wyse thin clients found in Kool Smiles’ dental offices nationwide.
The Wyse Device Manager allows IT staff to control device policy, configuration, and assets in real time and enables remote imaging and administration delegation. All examining rooms at Kool Smiles offices have a Wyse thin client that operates with dual LCD monitors, allowing doctors and hygienists to run two applications and simultaneously view X-ray records and dental charts. This technology also simplifies tracking care, filing treatment plans, and making authorizations. Additionally, the system implements several security layers so that all private health care information is protected according to HIPAA requirements. Data is moved around and between Kool Smiles offices over a carrier-class virtual private network via a secure data stream. Since no data is actually stored on the thin client, in the event of a theft, patient confidentiality is never compromised.
Kool Smiles is excited to stay on the cutting edge of technology and serve its patients in the most efficient and economical manner possible.
